Founded in 1985, the Gay Museum is the only institution of its kind in the world dedicated to systematic research and public representation of gay life in all its forms. The six exhibitions, which change annually, focus not only on historical themes but also on private curricula vitae, everyday life, art, film and photography. The exhibitions are equipped with exhibits from the museum's own extensive collection and supplemented by loans.
